The meeting was chaired by Kasenga X.

Events

Progress report on what has been done concerning the software freedom day. All was on course.

In addition it was reported about OSZ to begin showing an open source series (go_open) that was produced in South Africa on ZNBC. Teddy and Kunda met Ben Kangwa from ZNBC and 3 options on getting the series televised were tabled:

• OSZ to look for the sponsors of the program
• ZNBC to look for the sponsors of the program and gets 80% while OSZ gets 20%
• To help ZNBC tide up their network and email programs, these would be costed and battered with the TV series

ZNBC showed interest in us helping them with their Network and communication software requirements.

Constitution

Analysis of the 2 draft constitutions, and the version done by Robert was adopted as follows:

The adoption of the constitution was proposed by Kasenga and Seconded by Milner.

A list of people to be represented as the members of the OSZ during registration was compiled by Kasenga. At least 10 members were needed to register the OSZ. The members are as follows:

OSZ resource centre

The report from Robert to be treated as a separate entity almost like a project to be embarked upon by the OSZ. It was proposed that the report be kept to the intended mail list to put through their inputs.

Presentation on Mozilla Firefox

I must say that the presentation was a very informative one and I will try to give you the gist of some of the things that were unveiled during the presentation.

• It started with the history of the web browser’s history. How once it was part of an integrated package by the company Mozilla. This had three distinct components: The Browser, Composer (to create webpages) and an email client.
• The package is now open source.
• The other section of the presentation was based on the different capabilities brought in by the plug-ins available to Mozilla Firefox browsers.
• Internet Explorer has Active X which enables the browser to install programs in the background.
• Here is a list of the Features and plug-ins presented

  • Add an IE tab which can enable you to view the site in IE format.
  • Calculator
  • Exchange rate converter which uses the yahoo web to convert with the latest rates on the market.
  • Calendars/ organizers
  • Sessions for abruptly closed tabs it has the capability of undoing closed windows.
  • Ftp services with fire ftp
  • Google customize
  • Latest
  • Click weather- This feature gives you the current weather scenario in your location and a prediction.
  • Flashgot download manager

  • FoxyTunes for those who love to listen to music while you work this feature gives you the full control of your media player within the browser.

Mr. Milner and Milimo were proposed as the people to take upon the task of registering the OSZ.

The discussion of the mode of implementation to be continued on the mailing list.
