Agenda

  1. Presenters Corner (Open Source Talk + Howtos - Site update, running a LUG etc)
  2. Finances - we can't let Teddy pay for everything.... Does anyone have ideas for how to run the finances of the group e.g. a group bank account, or becoming an official charity?
    • Run Google Adsense or Advertising Space
  3. Mailing list - This is the only way the commnuity can discuss and debate on important issues, so that the main meeting is just used to assent a activities.
  4. Ideas for running OSZ
  5. Software Freedom Day, 16 September 2006: what are we doing?

    • Someone (VOLUNTEER!) should read the site and give a brief rundown of some ideas for what to do/who to get involved.
  6. Add information to the wiki!
    • Personal pages (homepages on the wiki) will allow us to gauge levels of expertise
    • information about projects that use open source will raise their profile
    • more information will raise our profile on search engines. Ironically, as of 18 April, the only search engine to have crawled this site is MSN.com (the Microsoft site)!
    • report back about conferences/workshops you go to, or add links to the site
    • Tell us if you're hacking on an open source project, or if you'd like to learn but don't know where to start!
  7. Partnerships with regional LUGs or open source groups (like http://www.zoss.org.zw/ in Zimbabwe)

    • Are there any other open source groups?
  8. Future of CodeZed (http://www.codezed.org)

    • Suggestions and ideas for the use of CodeZed

    • Clarify intentions behind OSZ mailing list and ZLUG mailing list.
  9. Translating open source software
    • There are plenty of projects to translate open source software (including OpenOffice.org and Ubuntu.

    • These are activities that don't require a lot of technical knowledge, you just have to learn how to use the tools - Ubuntu uses a web interface, so you just have to type your translations into a web browser.

    • Would it be worth starting a translation project? Into which language(s)?
  10. Dont worry about my being to formal here, but i gues a user group like ours would need to consider a constitution???

PS - Don't let Teddy take the fun out of meetings with agendas and minutes :) . The most important thing is to keep it social, and try to learn at least one new thing about Linux or open source at each meeting - or perhaps meet one new person.
