The OSZi has started the process of translating the GNOME project ( used mainly in the Ubuntu distros) into Bemba. The Bemba that will be used is simple Bemba or what we may call Bemba 'Lite'. Some items will still have English translations where the equivalent Bemba does not exist.
So what have we got so far?
The Bemba locale under iso 639 Code, 'bem' has been submitted with most common entries done. Check http://o2.it46.se/afrigen/statistics.php. As soon as a glibc locale file is opened, we shall be good to go. The idea is that we finish Bemba and move on to other major Languages. What this means, if we do a good job, is that all software vendors will have access to our locales such that even cell phones can have our language on them. When you are installing some software, you will be able to pick Bemba or the other languages as default.
I will provide some detail when we have the glibc file created so that we set some rules on the translations due to the fact that some people know more Bemba than others.
